What is a marketing audit and why do you need one?

Marketing is complex. Not only are there multiple types of marketing channels, there are different audiences, goals, and customer journeys for each. So…how do you know if your marketing efforts are actually working?

In comes a marketing audit. A marketing audit takes inventory of everything you’re doing to promote your product, services, and business, then assesses whether or not what marketing you’re running is actually translating into conversions.

The Happy Marketing Co. is a marketing consultancy for small businesses and new businesses, along with successful businesses that need a refresh. We offer marketing audits, fractional CMO services, and VIP Marketing Workshops.

One of our main service offerings is marketing audits. It’s a great way to optimize your marketing so you’re not wasting your time, your team’s time, and (more importantly) your revenue.

What is a marketing audit?

There are a few major elements within a marketing audit, and it’s also custom for each business — depending on which marketing channels you’re utilizing. After assessing which channels you’re using, we look at performance, audience, content, and conversions for each channel.

This data will help us see where you’re at as a baseline, what your goals are, and what needs to be done to reach your goals.

The main channels we look at when performing a marketing audit are:

  1. Website, such as Squarespace, Shopify, or WordPress

  2. Online course platform, such as Kajabi

  3. Social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, TikTok, and LinkedIn

  4. Email marketing platforms, such as Klaviyo, Constant Contact, Kajabi email, and Mailchimp

  5. Besides these channels, we also analyze your revenue as a whole

What type of marketing audit is right for your business?

The Happy Marketing Co. offers two types of marketing audits: our Comprehensive Marketing Audit and Single-Channel Marketing Audit. Depending on your goals and what marketing you’re currently running, either offering will likely work for your business. We’ll explain what each of them offer.

Comprehensive Marketing Audit: In this marketing audit, we’re looking at all your channels. This includes your website, social media channels, and email marketing platform. In addition to your website, you might also have an online coaching platform, such as Kajabi.

Single-Channel Marketing Audit: If you’re looking for a more focused marketing audit, we can audit one of your channels to optimize how it’s performing. For example, if you don’t have an email marketing strategy, we can look at the emails you’ve sent to your list previously, then create a strategic plan for drip campaigns and newsletters. If your website isn’t converting, we can focus on this important channel for sales and deliver a custom strategy to optimize all aspects.

Note: These marketing audits do not include implementation of our recommendations. If you’re looking for a marketing consultant who can execute email, social, and website work, view our Fractional CMO program.

How much is a marketing audit?

Marketing audits performed by agencies can be extremely expensive. The Happy Marketing Co. likes to work with small and growing businesses who have big growth goals and reasonable budgets. We’re not going to overcharge you for work that can be found on the internet — everything we do is custom and with your goals in mind.

Our Comprehensive Digital Marketing Audit is $2,497 for analyzing your website, social media channels, and email marketing. If you have more than one website platform (such as a Shopify or Squarespace and/or Kajabi), there may be an additional charge. Once we have a discovery call and chat through your marketing channels, we’ll confirm final pricing.
